May my heart see . . . a blog? What?

My sister suggested years ago for me to start a blog.  “A what?”, I said.  Well, thank you, Cindy, for your suggestion – I think I’m gonna love this !  And I hope you do too.  I want to share what my heart has “seen” and is learning through God’s Word and I want to hear from you too.
The first time I EVER went to Bible study was when my “baby” was in an infant seat.  I remember it vividly.  (He’s 25 now BTW)   My step-mom invited me; she was the leader.  I don’t know if I would have went to a study where I didn’t know A SOUL – maybe.  Anyway, I have been going to a weekly study since then regularly and LOVE IT, absolutely love it!
When scripture says “ open the eyes of my heart, Lord” – what do you think that means?  Hearts don’t have eyes, I mean literally they don’t.  My step-mom used to say, “I know it in here (pointing to her brain) but I now know it in HERE (pointing to her heart).  There’s a difference.  Head knowledge/heart knowledge.
Everything I “know” in my head, is not “known” in my heart – is not seen with the eyes of my heart.  God’s Word, through the Holy Spirit, penetrates the heart to make a difference.  We “think” different with our hearts and THAT can be life-changing!  THAT is what this blog is all about.
Here, Paul says to the Ephesians (two different versions) :

Amplified:  By having the eyes of your heart flooded with light, so that you can know and understand the hope to which He has called you, and how rich is His glorious inheritance in the saints, and what is the immeasurable and unlimited and surpassing greatness of His power in and for us who believe.

NIV:  I pray also that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints, and his incomparably great power for us who believe.

I would love to hear from you – love to hear your thoughts, prayer concerns, wisdom.  Love to share it with others, if you don’t mind.  OH, may this bless you and bring glory to the Heavenly Father!

  1. "seeing with my heart" reminds me of Romans 12:2 and having our minds renewed with truth. God's Word is the means with which God opens our hearts to see what our minds already know (as you mentioned.)
Am looking forward to enjoying the musings and encouragement found here, Debi!

  2. What a wonderful way to start your day! Lead with the eyes of your heart...show that "actions speak louder than words"

Thanks for all your encouraging words Deb! You have a beautiful gift from God! Thanks for sharing that:*)

  3. ...because it isn't enough simply to teach truth. You never affect the whole person until the 'eyes of the heart' are enlightened. When truth is moved from the head down to the heart, it has gripped the emotions. Then the will is properly motivated. The heart needs to see things, needs to grasp truth and understand it. And the heart is always used in scripture as the seat of our emotions. Remember the episode in Luke 24- that walk to Emmaus...."Were not our hearts burning within us while he talked with us on the road and opened the scriptures to us?" (v.32) Faithful prayer shortens one of the longest distances known by humanity which is the distance between our head and our heart. Debi, in my humble opinion, has a gift for prayer, so it doesnt surprise me that she has been enlightened to start this blogging business....my only question is, "What's next?" Radio? Television? Podcasts? I can say, I knew her when.... and I'm honored to share this faith journey with her. Blog or no blog.

It all started before that.

As she talked, I sat there amazed.   Not at what she was saying, but at who she had become.   Confident.   Godly.   Faithful.    Respected.   It just hit me that she is now a leader in our church.    A true leader.   The next generation of leaders, in fact. But wait -- is this the same young woman who God brought into our lives a little over 10 years ago?   The anxious, nervous, only-just-started-going-to- church- wanting-to-please-everyone young woman my son introduced us to?   Watching her confidently taking her seat, I started thinking of those first days . . .   and seriously, my breath caught in my throat.   How amazing God is!   He molds, He holds.   He shapes and He grows.   And He does this over and over – and it still amazes me.   That got me to thinking.   God’s amazing work in my life didn’t start with my daughter-in-love.   It started before that.   It starte...

I prayed for toilet paper.

I left for a LONG walk by myself recently while vacationing at my sister's place.   Armed with a bottle of water, it was a perfect morning to get away.  The sun was shining and the birds were singing - what could be better??   Having walked this path before, I didn't have a worry in the world. Praying, humming and taking in as much of God's creation as I could, all was good.   Well, until . .   My bladder was full and no bathroom was in sight.   I figured I was still about two miles away from the nearest bathroom.   What to do?   Two miles is a LONG WAY when you gotta go.   Some of you know EXACTLY what I mean.   Or maybe you don't have problems like this and if you did, you at least wouldn't tell anybody about it.   But the older I get, the more of a problem it is.   And the older I get, I know that EVERY event in life has a lesson.   Yes, even one like this   So I did what an...

The Joyces of My Life

Have you ever had someone in your life who truly showed joy, no matter the circumstance?  How about someone who has made a profound influence?  I can honestly say that I have had two, and they both have the name "Joyce" - hence, the title of this post - The Joyces of My Life. First of all, Joyce ( my stepmom) came into my life when she married my dad.  My life was pretty unstable with my mother, but we all made the best of it.  Once I graduated from high school, I moved in with Dad and Joyce. Life happened, I got married, had some kids, you know the drill.   When I think back, there's nothing specific I remember, except  her constant-ability.  She was always there for me.  Period.  When you meet someone who lets you into their heart, bears her own heart and soul, while introducing you to Jesus, your life changes.  At least mine did.  Her love for Jesus and scripture was evident and contagious.  I wanted in - all...
