Good

How “good” is God?  Is He good all the time (like the song says)?  Really?  I mean in all ways, is everything about God good, really?  With all the yuck today and the evil around us, no matter what ? 

I believe that in all things, God is good and I also believe its important for us to believe that God is truly good in all ways.   Let me explain.

First of all, “good” is defined as “having desired or positive qualities” or “serving the desired end”.  I cannot serve a god that is not good.  I cannot worship or trust anything or anyone that does not have my best in mind.  Now, I didn’t say, “my way” in mind – I said “my best”.  And my best is not always my way, if you know what I mean.

In order for me to trust God, the Father Almighty, I need to know Him – who He is and what He is.  From Genesis to Revelation, the Bible speaks of God’s goodness.  His goodness to His creation – us.  Over and over, God asks us to trust Him for He is good. 

When all the Israelites saw the fire coming down and the glory of the Lord above the temple, they knelt on the pavement with their faces to the ground, and they worshiped and gave thanks to the Lord, saying, “He is good, His love endures forever.”
II Chronicles 7
 
And I Peter 2:

Like newborn babies crave pure spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow up in your salvation, now that you have tasted that the Lord is good.

“Tasting that the Lord is good” is getting to know Him – trusting Him or growing up in our salvation as Peter put it.  I don’t trust myself because I have let myself down.  I don’t trust “stuff” cause it can be destroyed.  But God, He is trustworthy, faithful and true and oh, so G-O-O-D. 

Don’t get me wrong here, I’m not “there” yet.  All I’m saying is that GOD IS GOOD.  And I know that with my whole heart.  My faith is based on that – WHO God is.  Not on what I think God is or what I think God should be – but on WHO HE IS.  And I base that on His Word.   The Truth.

The law of the Lord is perfect, reviving the soul.

The statutes of the Lord are trustworthy, making wise the simple.

The precepts of the Lord are right, giving joy to the heart.

The commands of the Lord are radiant, giving light to the eyes.

The fear of the Lord is pure, enduring forever.  (Psalm 19)

    Ps 119:68 is my 'go-to' verse, speaking of God it says: "You are good, and do good"
    How thankful I am for how I've come to know him in this way! Even when it is hard.

 There have been so many changes in my life since I last wrote on this blog -  it's been almost 10 years now. The last two years have been horrendous for my family as my oldest son was diagnosed with stage 4 mesothelioma. I know that from the start of this diagnosis, God has been there, holding me, and speaking to my heart over and over. A lot of those times I didn't want to hear what He had to say because I was so angry and full of myself. But our God is so patient, and He is a peacegiver and through this whole thing, He is working mightily. I could not list all the ways God has blessed me and been with me through this journey with my son and his family. And my son, Dan? He finished so well. I am so proud of him and I miss him everyday. May my heart see . . . a blog? What?

My sister suggested years ago for me to start a blog.   “A what?”, I said.   Well, thank you, Cindy, for your suggestion – I think I’m gonna love this !   And I hope you do too.   I want to share what my heart has “seen” and is learning through God’s Word and I want to hear from you too.   The first time I EVER went to Bible study was when my “baby” was in an infant seat.   I remember it vividly.   (He’s 25 now BTW)    My step-mom invited me; she was the leader.   I don’t know if I would have went to a study where I didn’t know A SOUL – maybe.   Anyway, I have been going to a weekly study since then regularly and LOVE IT, absolutely love it! REAL expectations?

Oh to be truly thankful for what I have and to have REAL expectations in life.   I mean, IF I am truly thankful for all that is given me (no matter what) – and to KNOW what is expected – doesn’t that sound peace-ful (full of peace) – wouldn’t that be a “slice of heaven” so to speak? I have a sweet granddaughter (Adalay) who is 10 months old, breast-fed and still not sleeping through the night.   She wakes up and needs comfort.   She’s hungry.   That’s reality.   To expect that she be comforted WITHOUT her mother – is that a REAL expectation?   Probably not.   I did have her for the night a couple weeks ago and we “made do” although we were up quite a bit (we took a delicious 4 hour nap later J ). Anyway, the REALity of it is that Adalay needs comforting in the middle of the night, albeit, with or without milk.   A lactation specialist has told my daughter-in-love that THAT is NORMAL – a REAL expectation for babies, even at 10 months old.   If...
